Dobbie is approximately 12-18 months old and is still just a baby. He came into our care after he found himself at risk in the pound. They felt he would be better placed with a breed specific rescue.
He’s been with us a couple of months now and this video shows how unsure he is of people he doesn’t know. He has formed healthy bonds with the girls at kennels and will take treats from them and enjoys a scratch and cuddle.
We went to visit him yesterday which is why he is running around his pen trying to keep away from us.
Akitas are brave and fearless, they should never be looking for a way to escape from you. It’s truly heartbreaking to see such a noble animal worrying like this.
We feel that Dobbie would do extremely well in a home environment where he can learn to understand that he is safe now. Whatever has happened in his short life will not happen again!
We are looking for a quiet foster home where he can be allowed to settle and explore when he feels ready to. He is a little wary of men so a female household would be ideal but isn’t essential, just don’t be surprised if he decides not to pay attention to any men. We would prefer a home with no children but children over 12 will be ok. You will need to be prepared to travel and meet him several times with your dog before he would have the confidence to leave with you.
Dobbie absolutely must be placed with a spayed female who is confident but not too domineering. He is constantly with other dogs at kennels and this is when he is happiest.
If you are able to be his security blanket then please do get in touch with us by completing the foster form.
Thank you to Anya, Tim and their awesome team. You are doing fantastic with him and he’s already so much brave than he was ❤️
